A Nomad's Tale

About Me
Hello, my name is Tamara and I love to walk! I developed my passion for travel by foot in Oregon when I was in college. Since then I have roamed through many forest lands and foreign lands. I have walked portions of the Pacific Crest Trail and the Appalachian Trail, the Camino Frances of the Camino de Santiago de Compostela, the Nakahechi Route of the Kumano Kodo, and half of Mexico and Central America in the Peace Corps!
My favorite memories from my adventures were times when I was just present, observing life around me. When we can slow down and be absorbed by the moment, we ....

It has only been later in life, as I have embraced meditation and mindful practices, that I have made the connection of joy of walking with the ability to truly be present. It was when I was walking the Camino Ingles Route of the Camino de Santiago from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, France to Santiago de Compostela, Spain in 2008 that I was truly able to merge the spiritual aspect of walking with the physical journey.
Now my husband and I have grown roots in San Diego County as we raise our two radiant teenage daughters and our two affectionate and mischievous dogs! As you can imagine, when I am not working as a midwife, I walk! I also love playing with plants in my vegetable and Japanese gardens. We use our summer vacations to calm my wanderlust and discover new local and global adventures.
And through it all, I peer in awe at this incredible world around us, ponder the human condition, and practice living in peace and gratitude for the freedom to just be. That is really enough.
