The Walk Itself

I have self-declared Seattle as one of the most walkable cities in the United States! Not only do pedestrians have more accessibility to different routes within the urban center, but the city has made those walking areas extremely beautiful to enjoy with each step! The Seattle Pike UC takes advantage of this accessibility to introduce you to all facets of the more touristic area of the city.

With my obsession with multi-modal slow travel, I’ve woven a “choose your own adventure” element into this Urban Camino. As you reach Westlake Center, you can decide whether to ride the Seattle Monorail or walk that 1.5 mile stretch of the path. If you choose the Monorail, you’ll miss seeing The Spheres up close — but the ride itself is an adventure, offering a slow moving perspective on the city that more than makes up for it.

Distance in Presence

The walk is approximately 7 miles using the Monorail and 8.5 miles completely on foot.

Mindful Reflection

Here, amid distraction, attention becomes practice.

The Journey Unfolds

Wake up the senses as you head to Kerry Park for a postcard view of the Space Needle, Elliot Bay and, if you are lucky, a glimpse of

Mount Rainier.

Then walk towards the sea and stroll along its' shores using the West

Thomas Street Pedestrian Overpass and the Elliot Bay Trail.

Enjoy all the murals, sculptures, and unique art installations along the path including The Gum Wall, The Olympic Sculpture Park, and

A pick of musuems to explore from the Seattle Art Museum, Wing Luke Musuem, the Seattle Pinball Musuem, the

Watch Fishmongers throw salmon through the air at the Pike Place Market. Then amble among the flower, cheese, and gift vendors,

smelling and tasting their splendor as you wander.

In front of Orange Dracula 5 & 10, you’ll find the Psychic Chicken ready to divine your future. Drop a coin, make your wish, and watch

as fate unfolds in feathers and fortune slips.

Explore Japantown on foot stopping to appreciate murals, meditative gardens, and sacred treasures given to the city from their

sister city, Kobe, Japan.

Feel free to take a break at the Seattle Public Library. The geometric architecture and large windows entice you to sit, recharge, and

browse for awhile.

Ride the Monorail from the Westlake Center to the Seattle Monorail Center, located at the base of the Space Needle.

Visit the Space Needle. After a 45 second elevator ride, you are in a rotating sky capsule! Enjoy watching the world below, spotting the

peaks beyond, and feeling the stillness.
